Question:

I planted a Cox's Orange Pippin in my back garden 5 years ago. It has never seemed to thrive and produces very poor apples.

Answer:

In the West Country with its high rainfall and predominantly heavy soil Cox is not a good choice of tree. It is prone to scab and canker, diseases of our warm, wet climate.

The best thing to do is dig it up and burn it and plant one with better disease resistance; or move to Kent.

Be sure to plant any new tree away from the root area of the Cox to avoid the possibility of re-plant disorder.

I agree with admin about cox's orange pippin. I have one in Mid -Devon and it's just died after suffering for years
