Upton Pyne

Upright, heavy cropping, moderately vigorous tree. Large, oblong fruit. Golden yellow colour and striped pink. The flesh is crisp and juicy, sweet/subacid and aromatic. Cooks to a puree, with a brisk taste and a hint of pineapple. A very tasty apple. Unfortunately, it has been prone to scab in our recent wet years. So not one for those who do not want to spray.

Topsham Museum keep a potted example (on dwarf rootstock).

Raised by George Pyne of Topsham and introduced in 1910.
